FAQ: Xanview Cloud Backup Packages
-
What if my Internet is not fast enough for the “Professional” package? If your connection is too slow to keep up, you can still use the “Professional” package and the system will try to catch up at night. If it cannot catch up it will create occasional 1 minute gaps in what is backed up, allowing you to make the most of what bandwidth is available. Please note, if this is a connection at home or a connection shared with other users, it can mean things like BBC iPlayer will be impacted, other people using the Internet may complain of a slow down. In those situations we really recommend the "Standard" cloud package.

What if I use a 3G Dongle? The “Standard” packages should work in most cases. It is recommended to have at least 2GB of data allowance per camera per month. Please note actual data use will vary depending on use, for example if you flag many events, this will cause them to be backed up to the cloud and eat your data quicker. Same applies for frequently accessing live view and recorded footage. The level of motion on the camera will not significantly affect the 3G requirement on the “Standard” packages.

Can cloud backup slow down my Internet?Short answer: the “Standard” packages won’t, the “Professional” packages might. As standard, the Xanview system uses very little Internet, unless accessing remotely. When using a "Standard" cloud package, it uses some Internet but in almost all cases, it is not enough to slow down the Internet connection. When using the "Professional" cloud package, you will need to assess if your Internet is sufficiently fast by running a speed test at: http://speedtest.net A camera typically needs around 2mbps upload (sometimes more, sometimes less depends on quality, frame-rate, amount of motion, noise, etc) when recording video. The average Internet in the UK is 3.7mbps upload, but people in remote locations often have significantly less than that. Some customers in the countryside have just 0.7mbps. As an example, the 50mbps BT fibre connection provides 20mbit upload and will therefore handle 8-10 cameras on the "Professional" cloud package. However, a Virgin connection that also claims to be 50mbps will only provide 3mbps upload, meaning it will only handle a single camera on the professional package backing up to the cloud (but 10 or more cameras using the "Standard" cloud package).

Other factors to considerUnlike “Standard”, “Professional” can slow down the Internet, we recommend a fast or dedicated connection. Flagged video and video backup during alarm is kept for 1 year, requires a compatible alarm. When your alarm goes off, the system will begin backing up video immediately (from 1 minute before until 1 minute after the alarm), ensuring the evidence is in the cloud before the intruder can unplug the unit or Internet. Our best image technology provides a representative frame for every 5 seconds of video (as pictured) for 24/7 backup as well as to provide evidence of no evidence. All cloud storage is charged per month and will be deleted automatically once a subscription is cancelled. Events older than X days will be automatically deleted from the cloud (X days depending on your chosen package). Local storage duration is independent of cloud and depends on the size of the local hard drive. Additional days can be purchased in 30 day increments using the listed 30 days prices. Standard Packages: 10/30/60 days provide up to 7/20/40GB respectively. Pro Packages 10/30/60 days provide up to 100/300/600GB respectively.

Can I mix and match packages?Yes! - For example you can choose to have 5 cameras with no cloud backup, 2 cameras with “Standard” cloud backup with 10 days and 1 camera with the “Professional” package with 60 days backup. It does not matter if it is a single or multiple TimeBoxes.
